How to keep a Community Growing
Apr 13, 2024Have you heard the story behind Emotional Bungee Jumpers?
The idea was the result of answering 2 questions:
- How did you learn to ask such good questions?
- How did you get so comfortable with vulnerability?
REPETITION
The simple answer was reps! Lots and lots of reps! And as I thought about it more, there were a couple of things that really helped me build those skills. One of those things was access to a group of people that did it on the regular and the other was a super tight feedback loop.
Then I wondered, would it be possible to deepen the impact and influence of some ballers that I recognized to be super influential. Could this little exercise increase their comfort with vulnerability and make them better listeners?
So I called em up, they all said YES!!! and what has happened since then has exceeded all expectations. The group has grown and the most surprising thing to me is the trust and connection that has developed amongst the community members.
But there is a problemš¤¬
The name "Emotional Bungee Jumpers" seems to be a barrier. Those of us that are in the group know how freakin awesome it has been but its super hard to describe and it seems the word EMOTIONAL stops people in their tracks.
So I went on a fact finding mission. I reached out to all the active Jumpers and asked them "what would make the Emotional Bungee Jumpers experience so awesome that you would feel guilty about not telling everyone you know about it?" The answers were inspiring and made it clear that we could enhance the experience and accelerate our personal and professional growth.
WHAT NOW
Well we are adding a new element that is more like riding a roller coaster than bungee jumping. Your emotions will not be on the table for everyone to seeš
The key word here is ADDING! Which means current jumpers automatically get access to this new experience and new comers can pick and choose. Like if throwing your hands up while speeding through sharp curves and massive drops is your style we got something for you. And if you are always down for an adventure that leaves you a little shook, you can get that too.
So what is this new thing: "Cultivating Connection, Impact, and Influence"
It is group learning sessions focused on these 4 ideas:
- Facilitation for Connection
- Leaving a Lasting Impression through Story Telling
- Maximizing the Power of Feedback
- Introspective Reflection
Sessions 1, 2, & 3 will be entirely focused on building our facilitation skills. How to's, Dont do's, and live action practice.
So clear your calendar the second Friday of the month at 2pm Central and join the community.
