Where do the Whispers come from?

life lessons Jun 04, 2023

Story 2 takes me back to when I was just a little guy. Its a story of growing from silent to heard, a story of shifting from self preservation to serving others.

Like many Life Lessons it would be a long time before I built the maturity and awareness to exercise it responsibly. The venue of this lesson was under the covers, hiding from the harsh reality of abuse, abuse of family members. In my case I was paralyzed by it until I wasnt.

I still havent figured out what exactly stirred me into action except for maybe my shame of hiding away and feeling complicit in what was happening. Maybe it was the way waking up in the morning and pretending like nothing happened covered me with a film of guilt. Maybe all of the above.

At some point I had to do something, all I had is all any of us have; the power to choose. I chose to say something, I chose to listen to the whispers. I was smaller, less qualified, less powerful but the whispers urged me to take action. There was no script no guarantees of my safety. The only guarantees were things would remain the same if I failed to take action and the whispers would get louder if I continued to ignore them.

So I took action, a small tiny action. I stood up walk to the bedroom door and told him to stop.

Terrified, trembling and tiny I stood and said STOP.

The next day it stopped, the very next day my world was forever transformed. The world of the people I cared for was transformed by tiny little me taking action. The immense pressure of indecisiveness was lifted. The magic of idea to action was revealed.

This entry is vague on purpose. My intent is that you fill the blank space with your own experiences, your regrets, your own ideas. I hope the ideas youve been dismissing, rattle and shake in your head so much that you cant help but take action. Find solace from the "what ifs" in the fulfillment serving others.

Remember "when you ignore the whispers you will cause them to scream"where-do-the-whispers-come-from
